Since 2006 I have also conducted science-based feral horse management consultancies in south east Queensland. I am a keen equestrian competitor and have successfully competed at the highest level in Australian Showjumping on two former feral horses. I promote capture and domestication of feral horses to assist with feral population reduction however in many parts of Australia lethal options are required to reduce feral horse populations to acceptable levels. This requires extensive consultation and collaboration with the diverse range of community interest groups. Using science as a tool to determine facts and reduce conflict I facilitate the progress of feral horse management. I have seen first hand the devastating consequences of allowing feral horse populations to increase unchecked. These consequences include damage to native plants and animals and during drought many feral horses die of starvation or thirst.
I have a keen interest in ensuring that my ecological research leads to improved management and I seek long-lasting solutions to the problems caused by overabundant vertebrate
